St. Michael’s Mission of the Month, April 2018—Bryan Blomker, Youth for Christ International
“That’s a lot of hormones flying around!” said my colleague in response to learning the
number of teenagers in our world today. And it is!
Today in the United States alone there are about 40 million teenagers. An estimated 20
million of them would be considered “lost”— young people who do not have a relationship
with Jesus. Many are without hope. Last night, 80,000 young people spent the night in jail. Each year in the U.S. there are about 750,000 teen pregnancies, about 1/3 of which end in abortion.
Suicide remains the second leading cause of death among teens. That is in the U.S. alone.
Teens in the U.S. only comprise three percent of the world’s population of young people
Ninety-seven percent live outside our borders. Of the nearly 2 billion young people in our world
today, most of them live in the 48 least developed nations of the world. Many are living in
poverty, being exploited, facing violence, and discrimination. Many are without hope and don’t
Thankfully God isn’t abandoning all those lost young people. They are who Jesus came
for. “For God so loved the world that he sent his only son into the world that whoever believes
in Him, should not perish, but have eternal life.” (John 3:16) That is the good news! And that is
really the only solution to the problems facing our young people and our world today.
That good news is what you are sharing with young people through Youth for Christ
International. For over 70 years God has been using Youth for Christ to reach young people
around the world with good news of Jesus. You, through your support of YFC International and
Bryan Blomker are a part of that.
Billy Graham, who we said goodbye to recently, was YFC’s very first staff person. He
exemplified the heart and message of YFC. YFC’s focus is: Working together with the local
church and other like-minded partners to raise up life-long followers of Jesus who are
characterized by their devotion to the Word of God and prayer, their godliness in life-style, their
boldness in evangelism and their commitment to social involvement.
Today YFC International works in over 100 nations around the world reaching nearly 3
million young people annually and working with almost 60,000 staff and volunteers. Thank you
for being part of that. Your financial support and prayers for Youth for Christ International
and Bryan Blomker are making a difference!
