Plan a Visit to St. Michael’s

As a Visitor: Visitors are always welcome to all of our services as well as Sunday classes/studies for adults and children. You will not be asked to stand up or announce anything about yourself during service. However, you may be greeted and welcomed at the door as you enter. In the worship center, there are optional “connect” cards in the pew racks for you to fill out some information, which can be placed in the offering plate after the service. (Your personal information is not shared outside the church.) This simply helps us know a little more about how you found us and allows us to send you a note during the week.

Dress: We have no dress code. Feel free to wear suits or jeans—whatever makes you most comfortable as you worship God.

Worship Services: Each Sunday service is about an hour in length and includes announcements, contemporary worship music, prayers, an optional monetary offering, a brief in-service message just for children, Scripture reading, and a Bible-based message that’s relevant to life. As a Lutheran church in the Missouri Synod we also observe a time of silent confession of sins followed by a pronouncement of Christ’s forgiveness to us through God’s word. We also celebrate Holy Communion together on the first, third, and fifth Sundays of each month.

Music: Typically, a praise band leads the congregation in contemporary worship songs on Sundays, with occasional classic hymns led by organ or piano. Our Wednesday midday services are all hymns led by the organ.

Communion: We believe that God gives into our mouths not only bread and wine but his very body and blood to eat and to drink for the forgiveness of sins and to strengthen our union with him and with one another. Our Lord invites to his table those who trust his words, repent of all sin, and forgive others as we have first been forgiven. You are welcome to join us; the ushers will invite each row of pews to come forward to the communion servers to take a bread and wine. Children are encouraged to come with adults to receive a blessing.

Children and Youth: We really love kids at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church, and they are welcome in our worship services. We also have a quiet nursing room in the back of the sanctuary available for moms to care for little ones while still participating in service.  An unstaffed nursery with toys is available during services as well. There is a children’s sermon when children will be welcomed forward for a time of teaching designed just for them. Connect Kids (Sunday school) is offered from 10 to 11 am (Sept through May.) Additional children and youth programs, including Confirmation, are offered: for more detail please visit the children’s ministry page or the youth ministry page. First time visiting? Yes, your children are welcome to attend Sunday school with no pre-registration necessary!

Parking and Entrance, Accessibility: There is one driveway entrance to the church from Poplar Bridge Rd, as well as a one-way entrance from Normandale Blvd (northbound only.) We have one large parking lot close to the main church entrance on the east side of the building, and additionally two smaller lots to the southwest and southeast of the building. There are handicap spaces available close to the main entrance on the east side of the building. Our church building is equipped with handicap-accessible bathroom stalls and an elevator for your convenience.

Church Membership: There is no pressure to join us; you are always welcome to worship here, participate in any of our activities and attend any Bible studies. Periodically through the year we offer “membership exploration” classes where you can learn more about St. Michael’s, and we encourage you to come and learn even if you do not intend to become a church member. Topics include faith, Lutheran theology, our organizational structure, and a tour of the church. Membership of our church is a choice and commitment, which we want you to make only when the time is right for you.

If you have questions, don’t hesitate to contact us at office@smlcb.org or 952-831-5276. See you in church!
